Marcher Public de Montreal

The Marchés Publics de Montréal (MPM) manages Montreal's public markets, including Jean-Talon and Atwater. These markets connect Quebec farmers and artisans with urban consumers. They promote fresh, seasonal products and foster urban-rural links. The MPM enhances Montreal's cultural and economic vitality while generating city revenue.

Mandate

To make a seed packaging with an accompanying product from the Marcher Public de Montreal.

Design Thinking

I originally thought to make seed packaging of commonly used lettuce, for that I wanted to have a “leafy feel” to the packaging and I wanted to have less materials to make it better to unfold and have less waste.

Design Making

The individual seed packets are color-coded with a green gradient to differentiate them. For typography, I chose two serif typefaces: one elegant to evoke the delicate feel of lettuce leaves, and another more legible for the main text. The top openings of the seed packs feature squiggly lines, cut out to mimic a leafy aesthetic.

For the salad dressing packaging, I designed a wrap-around label that aligns with the seed packaging's style. The dressing's name incorporates a gradient reflecting its flavor, while the edge of the design features a squiggly line trimmed at an angle to symbolize its use as salad dressing.
